Newcastle Institute for Creative Arts Practice

The Newcastle Institute for Creative Arts Practice will provide an overarching structure drawing together existing areas of strength at Newcastle University, including:

  • Creative business and enterprise
  • Creative writing
  • Curatorial practice
  • Creative architectural design
  • Drama and theatre studies
  • Film and digital media
  • Fine art
  • Multimedia communication
  • Music composition and performance

NICAP will coordinate and promote a range of activities across subject and School boundaries. These activities will be characterised by an integrated approach whereby practice is informed by theory and theory illuminated by practice. This can be clearly seen in the innovative new MA in Creative Arts Practice, based in the University’s cutting edge research Culture Lab. This new programme is a practice-based, transdisciplinary programme that focuses on emerging creative practice and creative entrepreneurship in the digital age.
