Global Challenges

Working together to tackle development challenges.

Newcastle University has a long history of research excellence with a purpose. We’re committed to working with our valued partners to combine our cutting-edge research and experience to help make a difference to the lives of people in need across the globe.

Global Challenges Academy

We’ve established our Global Challenges Academy to bring together researchers, policy makers, businesses and communities globally around international development challenges. Here we’ll share ideas, best practice and projects in order to find evidence-based solutions to the world’s most pressing development challenges.

We're currently carrying out research in the following challenge-led research areas:

  • Water
  • Food Systems
  • Global Ageing
  • Cities

Within these broad themes we’re undertaking a number of projects.

Meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Newcastle University are proud to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) - seeking peace and prosperity for all people and the planet by 2030.

Our research projects are underpinned by, and help to address a number of the UN Sustainable development goals.
