MA in Music: Pathway in Medieval and Early Modern Music

Medieval and early modern musicThe history, performance, editing and theorising of early music is a very significant part of our research at ICMuS. In our teaching we place particular emphasis in exploring the interactions between musical repertories and their contexts. In the case of early music, this includes a strong interest in the history of musical materials, performance, and the construction of identity. Staff at ICMuS have specialisms in source studies, notation and editing, brass and keyboard music, gender, English music from 1300 to 1800, the Italian Renaissance, music and theatre.

This pathway includes a module of music research training, the core module and a dissertation. Beyond these core elements there is a wide choice of modules that deal specifically with recent methodological developments in the field.
