Photography

Other Expertise

Uta’s background as an artist was in Sculpture and Installation. This has a strong impact on her practice as a photographer.

Current Work

Uta is currently working on ‘Urban Myths’ a photographic project shot predominately in the American West concentrating on those cities so typical of this region that have apparently grown over night in unlikely natural environments. The work will be exhibited in a one-person show in December 2009 Evo Gallery, NM, USA.
Recently Uta completed ‘Mystery Spots’ a photographic essay about world’s places where unexplained forces and strange illusions interfere with reality. The project was commissioned by Wired, USA. It was published in a special issue of Wired US edited by guest editor J.J.Abrahams, Wired UK, Wired Italy, GQ South Africa and Esquire Magazine Spain.
Other recent projects include ‘dark light’ a project about how ideology becomes manifest in military defense structures exhibited in a one person show at Photofusion, London, ‘picturing-paradise’ a project about whether there is some common denominator to how we as individuals interpret paradise in our personal living environments exhibited at Danielle Arnaud Contemporary Art, London and ‘night-vision’ a project about the shifts of perception we experience in darkness, exhibited at CAP, London and Laurence Miller Gallery, NYC.

Future Research

During her recent time spent in the United States Uta initiated an ambitious video project about Pismo Beach. The project will concentrate on the State Vehicular Recreation Area. Oceano Dunes consists of 5 ½ miles of beach open for vehicle use and the sand dunes available for off highway motor vehicle. It is at them same time an area of incredible natural beauty, a large scale community center and one of those places so typical for the United States of controlled Freedom.
