Current projects include a book on music about AIDS, a book on Meredith Monk and performance art, and edited volumes on contemporary composer Gerhard Stäbler and music in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Background
Paul Attinello has taught at the International Centre for Music Studies at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne since 2002. He also taught at the University of Hong Kong and UCLA, living and working on four continents in the past decade. He has published in the Journal of Musicological Research, Musik-Konzepte, Musica/Realtá, the revised New Grove and several collections.
Roles and Responsibilities
Dr Attinello has been Director of Postgraduate Studies for the School of Arts & Sciences, Head of Postgraduate Studies for ICMuS, Degree Programme Director for the MA programme in Music, and has served on external committees such as the AMS Council and the Philip Brett Award committee.
Qualifications
PhD in Music (Systematic Musicology), UCLA, 1997. 'The interpretation of chaos: a critical analysis of meaning in European avant-garde vocal music, 1958-68.'
MA in Music (Systematic Musicology), UCLA, 1991. 'The strategy of theory, or through the looking-glass: rationalism, irrationalism & domination in music of the 20th century.'
