About the Course

GIS for Teachers

A free one-day course designed to help secondary school teachers discover and start using GIS in a variety of subjects.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are an increasingly important topic in the GCSE and A level Geography programmes. GIS can be used in other subjects too, and websites such as Google Maps mean this technology, and the science behind it, are increasingly part of everyday life. GIS is used in a wide variety of applications, from social media to supermarkets, emergency response to earthquake monitoring. This one-day course introduces the science behind GIS, the basic skills you need to use it in the classroom, the software and applications. It will demonstrate, through a variety of examples, how you could incorporate GIS into your teaching.

This course is free of charge. To be eligible for the course you must be working as a secondary school teacher.
