Professor Sandra Edwards has won a top prize at the 2017 Food and Farming Industry Awards.
The Newcastle University academic won the Outstanding Contribution to Farming award.
Sandra picked up the award at a prestigious ceremony at the House of Commons last Friday (December 1). Well-known political broadcaster John Pienaar hosted the event.
Sandra recently retired from the Chair of Agriculture at the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences. She received praise for finding the important balance between science and farming practicalities.
Excellence and innovation
Farm Business magazine and Lewis Business Media stage the awards each year. They recognise excellence and innovation across the agricultural sector.
Farm Business publisher Simon Lewis said: “Congratulations to Sandra, who was a deserved winner on the night. These awards have highlighted the breadth and depth of talent, drive and ambition in the farming sector.
"We're delighted to recognise the achievements of the winners, but also all of those shortlisted, which, in itself, is a great achievement.”
Head judge Séan Rickard said: “As always, every category posed some real dilemmas for the judges, such was the excellence of all the entries.
"Congratulations to all the winners, who managed to demonstrate something different and special.”
