Research council studentships are grants which generally provide some or all of the costs of tuition fees, living expenses and a contribution towards other expenses like fieldwork or travel.
However, it's not possible to offer all students on a course a funded place. You will be asked when you apply if you would like to be considered for funding. Money is then allocated on a competitive basis, at the discretion of programme leaders.
For students in SAgE, the most important source of funding is through the EPSRC Doctoral Training Accounts.
Please note that while the EPSRC sets the minimum level of stipend for research students, there is no equivalent for students following taught courses. Details will be available from the programme director of the course you are interested in. Those students previously in receipt of an MSc CTA Award would not normally be eligible for further support from the Account.
Funding may be available via the Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council (BBSRC), Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) or Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), depending upon the subject area. Find out more:
