Business Development Manager

Background

As a Business Development Manager at Newcastle University I help translate innovative academic research into real world applications.

I identify opportunities for external organisations to collaborate with our academic experts and use our unique research facilities, and also connect academics with relevant organisations in the private sector (SMEs, MNCs etc).

Additionally, I manage the IP commercialisation process, assessing and protecting new IP from academic research, identifying commercialisation partners, and facilitating negotiations regarding IP exploitation.

Previous roles:

2008-2012 Loughborough University - IP Commercialisation Officer

I worked within the IP Commercialisation Team based within the Enterprise Office at Loughborough University and worked closely with academics to identify, protect and manage new IP and commercialisation opportunities within the University’s research portfolio.


2009 - Loughborough University - Acting Proposal Officer Lachesis Fund

Lachesis Fund was an early stage seed fund based at Loughborough, which invests in technologies arising from research at eight Universities in the East Midlands. I was managing the day-to-day operation and administration of the fund, including liaising with applicants, Universities, and fund managers.


1997-2001 - Arla Foods Sweden - Production Process Operator

I worked as part of team overseeing the quality control and production processes at Arla Foods dairy.
