In December 2015, the Festive Lecture hosted by Newcastle University's Faculty of Medical Sciences Festive Lecture is entitled 'Survival of the Fittest' and is aimed at Year 10 students.
The lecture will be delivered by Professor Sir John Burn, who has been a consultant geneticist for 30 years. He is currently Professor of Clinical Genetics at Newcastle University as well as being the genetics lead for the UK National Institute of Health Research. Amongst his research, he led the study that demonstrated the use of aspirin in reducing the risk of colorectal cancers in persons with Lynch Syndrome. Professor Burn received a Knighthood for services to medicine and healthcare in 2010.
