Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons), 3rd year
What were the benefits of the PARTNERS Programme for you?
Participating in the PARTNERS programme gave me a lot of confidence when I started my degree in the following September - I already knew my way around, I knew a few people on my course and I gained a good understanding of what would be expected of me once I started studying. I also met my good friend during the programme - when I started studying in September it was great to see a familiar face in the lecture theatre! I also gained many useful skills during PARTNERS, such as essay writing techniques, critical analysis and I improved my referencing technique.
What did you enjoy most about the Assessed Summer School?
Meeting new people, getting a taste for the modules I'd be studying in September and experiencing University life! I really enjoyed the full programme - from the academic tasks to the social aspect. I also really appreciated having a personal mentor who would send me regular update e-mails containing information about the University and advice on University life. It was really helpful to have someone to contact with my questions.
If you could give advice or tips to a new PARTNERS student what would it be?
Try to enjoy every minute! It's a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends on your course before September. Take note of what the lecturers say in the academic sessions as you never know what might be helpful later in your course. Remember to enjoy yourself and take advantage of the social programmes that run within the PARTNERS scheme.
What support did you receive from the PARTNERS Team during the Assessed Summer School and throughout your time at University?
My PARTNERS mentor was really helpful - whenever I asked her questions about University life she always replied really quickly and gave me very thoughtful answers. The team were always there when I needed advice or if I had a question about my PARTNERS assessments which I found really useful.
