What did you enjoy most about the Assessed Summer School?

The most enjoyable aspects of the PARTNERS programme were the activities that were organised by the team of Student Reps working at the Summer School. They provided a comfortable and welcoming environment which brought us together for quiz nights, films and even karaoke. Conversations with the Reps about their course and interests were also invaluable as they taught me a lot about the University and the benefits of living in a city as culturally vibrant as Newcastle.

If you could give advice or tips to a new PARTNERS student what would it be?

Don't be afraid and most of all enjoy yourself! The thought of leaving home and going to university can be a very daunting experience but the PARTNERS staff will support, prepare and accommodate you throughout this experience. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain from this initiative so embrace it! Come out of your comfort zone and you'll make some great friends along the way.

Do you think you have had any advantages over non-PARTNERS students during your time at University?

I came into the first year my course already knowing what was expected of me as an undergraduate, where all the University resources were, where all of my course books were in the library, how to write an effective essay for my course and what is was like to live in student accommodation. Other students had to learn all of this information in the first few weeks. In this respect, the PARTNERS programme ensured that I started university with confidence and made sure that I would be prepared for the assignments and lectures that would come my way in the future.
