Newcastle University is the lead partner institution for Realising Opportunities, a unique collaboration of 15 leading, research-intensive universities. They work together to promote fair access and social mobility of students from groups underrepresented in higher education.
North East Raising Aspirations Partnership
Newcastle University is the lead partner institution for the North East Raising Aspiration Partnership (NERAP), a collaboration of the five universities in the region. They work together to ensure every young person has the opportunity to make informed decisions about higher education.
The partnership works with Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside universities to provide a comprehensive programme of aspiration raising activities to help inform your students about the benefits of higher education.
Our aim as a partnership is to become the single point of contact for teachers and advisors. This is to ensure that students in the region receive the information they need about higher education.
Advancing Access is a partnership between 24 leading universities working together with schools and colleges.
They provide a variety of CPD resources and online events, free of charge, for teachers and advisers to help them support students’ progression from key stage 4, right through to making university choices.
The website provides best practice examples and how-to guides for teachers and advisers to use as a part of peer-to-peer CPD and in the classroom with their students.
We’re working to increase the number of Newcastle University staff serving as governors in local schools and colleges as part of our widening participation strategy. We’re doing so by providing opportunities and support.
This initiative will enable schools and colleges to draw on the vast range of skills and experiences that our staff can bring to a Board of Governors. We will be working closely with the charity SGOSS Governors for Schools, who can match our skilled and enthusiastic staff with vacancies.
If you would like further information about this initiative, please contact Hilary Wilkinson.
We have developed relationships with several education networks. This is to ensure that we are providing the most relevant activities and resources for schools and colleges, and to continually improve what we offer. These networks include:
