As a research-intensive institution, fostering links with industry and local tertiary institutions are important to NUIS.  Through research partnerships, we aim to develop long and short-term research collaborations which are of mutual interest, establish strategic collaboration focus and submit joint research proposals for research funding.

Joint Research Collaboration

NUIS has a well funded and growing research program with over $2 million of projects currently being worked on. Research funding comes from a mix of local and international companies, government and independent agencies and through collaborations with local tertiary institutes. Some example projects are shown below:

  • High Performance Lithium-Ion Battery Power System for long endurance deep water operation (joint project with Temasek Polytechnic and SMD Singapore)
  • To reduce the resistance of ship hull by thin-film ice lubrication technology (joint project with Ngee Ann Polytechnic and AMM Ships Pte Ltd)
  • Materials properties of recycled aggregate concrete for structural applications (joint project with Nanyang Technological University and Pan United Pte Ltd)
  • Evaluation of Process Intensification in early development or retrofitting existing processes for green and sustainability benefits (with A*STAR Institute of Chemical Engineering Singapore (IECES) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) )
  • Biomass to Chemicals (joint project with ICES and NTU)
  • Development of Rapid and Automated Pathogen ID System in Environment by MALDI MSMS (with Nanyang Polytechnic, Kyoto University, National Environment Agency)
