Mechanical and Systems Engienering Research Staff in Singapore

Our academic staff located in Singapore actively conduct research for industry and government in many diverse fields of interest. The table below introduces our key staff members and current research interests:

School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering
Name Research Interests Include:
Dr Kheng Lim Goh
Director of Operations

Kheng Goh

Connective tissue - Understanding the structure-function relationship of connective tissue that underlies the different hierarchical levels of the tissue and molecular interactions regulating the mechanics of tissue reinforcement.

Biocomposite materials - Developing bio-based materials, namely chitosan-based composites, for tissue engineering, e.g. tissue repair. The key focus is on micro-environment techniques for biocomposite characterisation studies.

Biomedical Devices - Developing minimally invasive techniques for biomedical devices. The current focus are on tissue toughening at the healing sites and vascular (probes) access where surgical intervention is required.

Dr Michael Lau
Senior lecturer

Michael Lau

Control of mechanical and mechatronic systems -Identification and exploitation of models and their structures to design robust (e.g. H-inf) controllers. Work included those on modelling and control of underwater robotic vehicles and vibration suppression of machine disturbance to flexible base structures.

Mobile robotics applications - Integration of autonomous mobile robotics technologies (SLAM and wireless technologies) to assist the physically disadvantaged in navigation and guidance. Participated in the National Defence Agency competition for autonomous systems in 2008.

Servo systems for manufacturing - The design of fast-to-servo system, using micro-actuator and flexible mechanism, attached onto bench top machines for better machining performance. The servo system provides fine motion control and active vibration control.

Didier Talamona

Fire Safety Engineering - Experimental and numerical investigation of the stability and failure modes of steel, concrete and composite structures under fire conditions.

Green Material - Investigation and development of new green material such as green-concrete, green fire protection and green and sustainable materials in general.

Dr Eugene Wong
Lecturer

Eugene Wong

Energy Efficient Microwave Processing of Materials - Using microwaves to replace conventional heating for heating/processing of metals, polymers, food etc with significant savings in time and energy consumption.

Lightweight Metallic Composites - Development of magnesium and aluminium alloys and composites with enhanced properties using liquid and powder metallurgy techniques.

Computer Modelling and Simulation - Modelling and simulation of microwave heating processes for various materials to determine hot and cold spots and develop techniques to enhance heating uniformity.
