At Newcastle we provide doctoral supervision in Iberian and Latin American Studies in a range of disciplines from literature, film, visual media, history, language studies, cultural and social studies, with country expertise in Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina. Our research specialisms and supervisory expertise include: syntax (comparative, evolutionary, historical, acquisitional), phonology, morphology, phonetics, semantics, pragmatics and discourse analysis, first and second language acquisition, sociolinguistics historical linguistics, and dialectology. This is a multi-faceted inter-discipline where different fields, like linguistics, literary and cultural studies, interact and spark ideas from each other.
