Since the early days of the Cuban Revolution, comics represented a problematic cultural production. Following Marxist ideas, they were rejected as a mass culture artefact, however, they were embraced for their communicative possibilities. The paper will look at the ups and downs of this relationship between Cuban Intelligentsia and Cuban and International comics since the early 60s to current times.
