photographEdward Slingerland (UBC): Bringing Together the Sciences and Humanities

INSIGHTS Public Lecture

Location: Curtis Auditorium
Time/Date: 8th March 2012, 17:30 - 19:00

“From Bi-Versity to True University: Bringing Together the Sciences and Humanities”

Western institutions of higher learning are currently “bi-versities,” with scholars in the humanities and the sciences going about their work on opposite sides of campus, typically in complete ignorance about even the basics of the work being pursued on the other side of the divide. This talk will take a contemporary look at the “two cultures” split, as well as the prospects and challenges involved in moving beyond it.

Edward Slingerland is Professor of Asian Studies at UBC.

This talk is part of the INSIGHTS Public Lecture Series.
