Abstract: Recent interest in individualized language learning indicates that it is high time the teach-yourself phenomenon were taken seriously. This paper presents a detailed, non-impressionistic assessment checklist for teach-yourself package. Two example research applications are given: a survey of a range of course packages, and an analysis shedding light on the patterns of materials use by an individual learner of Hungarian.
