Abstract: The paper explores how the rhetoric of early German texts was influenced by the trends and conventions of Latin prosi-metrum by looking at the Latin 'Life of St. Aurelius' which the most influential author of the 11th century in Germany, Williram, abbot of Ebersberg, wrote. For the first time, the 'vita' is presented in its rhythmical structure and edited with a full translation.
