"Illusions in the surface - transparency and doubt. Kuvajainen lasipinnassa - lapinakyvyys ja eparointi." (2002)

Author(s): Blom K

Abstract: The article rides through the history of glass, and the reasons behind the immense use of glass, especially in the Miesian tradition The author is interested in the objects of the sublime; the objects in the modern steel-glass environment where the different and undefined qualities of reflecting surfaces are causing nausea or awe. The uncanny is either seen as the sublime beauty of the skyscrapers watched from far, or the disgusting uncertainty while approaching a glass box with reflecting surfaces. The special emphasis is in the illusion and not- decipherable complexion of experience caused by reflections in glass surface. It connects this doubt into the experience of Das Unheimliche. -The pictures of the article illuminate the different uses of glass, from a very reduces minimal experience to the rich, utopian expression of prismatic or colourful glass.

Notes: Article is published both in Finnish and English, the Finnish version is longer. The texts of the pictures are in both languages.
