Abstract: The article explores issues around the translation of linguistically and culturally hybrid texts, using postcolonialist approaches (Venuti, Mehrez) to translation theory and practice. The case is that of a Quechua-Spanish autobiography from the Peruvian Andes. Language contact is seen as integral to the discursive construction of hybrid cultural identities.
