Dr Conceicao Pereira

Lecturer in Portuguese, Co-ordinator of the Portuguese Language Centre - Camões ICL


Conceição Pereira earned her MA (2000) and PhD (2007) in Literary Theory from the University of Lisbon. She has two one year post-graduation courses – in Education (2008, Open University Portugal) and in Portuguese Studies (2012, University of Lisbon).


Conceicao Pereira is a senior researcher at CLEPUL, Centro de Literaturas e Culturas Lusófonas e Europeias (University of Lisbon). Her research and published articles are mostly on nonsense, children’s literature, comics and translation, thus giving continuation to her PhD dissertation: Improbable Contexts: Nonsense, Malapropism and Other Kinds of Banality.


Conceicao Pereira has taught Portuguese at a secondary level for 30 years, as well as Portuguese as a foreign language at the University of Lisbon and in Goa, India. She is currently teaching Portuguese at the School of Modern Languages (Newcastle University).
