German Extension Course

Study Visit in BerlinWhat is it?

It is a free, full time, pre-ITT (Initial Teacher Training) German language course, fully-funded by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) for students who wish to embark on a teaching career in Modern Languages. Participants receive a bursary of £2,400 and numbers are strictly limited to a maximum of 20 places.

Participants need to have a conditional teacher training place and must have one modern language to degree or native speaker standard.

Students with no or little experience in German are able to attend an intensive two week "ab initio" programme prior to the main course. All students take part in a fully-funded two-week study visit to Hamburg where they are able to consolidate what they have learnt in class.
See what people say and find out more about who can join and how to apply. For German students who are studying German as a foreign language, it is possible to do a "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" workplacement in the course.

The course dates will be:

  • Ab initio course: 21st May to 1st June
