It is a free, full time, pre-ITT (Initial Teacher Training) German language Subject Knowledge Enhancement course, fully funded by the Department for Education, for students who wish to embark on a teaching career in Modern Languages. Participants with an honours degree at level 2:2 or above (or equivalent) automatically receive a bursary (£2,400 in previous years).
Participants need to have a conditional teacher training place and must have one modern language to degree or native speaker standard.
Students with no or little experience in German are able to attend an intensive two week "ab initio" programme prior to the main course. All students take part in a fully-funded two-week study visit to Hamburg where they are able to consolidate what they have learnt in class.
See what people say and find out more about who can join and how to apply. For German students who are studying German as a foreign language, it is possible to do a "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" work placement in the course.
