Established in 1997, this prestigious Chinese T&I postgraduate programme aims to enable those who aspire to pursue an exciting career as a translator and/or an interpreter to acquire insightful knowledge and professional skills.

The T&I programme caters to different needs of applicants with varied talents and abilities. We provide a complete suite of MA courses in translating and interpreting with four distinctive pathways in Translating, Interpreting, Translating and Interpreting, and Translation Studies.

Depending on your personal plans and qualifications, you may choose to read for a 2-year or a 1-year MA degree. For the 2-year MA route, you start from the common first year in which everyone needs to take the same compulsory modules, such as translating, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, and translation studies, etc., before progressing to the second year when you may choose from one of the four MA pathways. For the 1-year MA route, you join the T&I course from the second year, depending on your strengths and interests when apply.

For course content, research areas, research skills training, entry requirements, how to apply, and fees, funding and visa information please see the full degree description.

Excellent facilities

This programme has dedicated facilities: a Postgraduate Office; a postgraduate common room; a designated Translating and Interpreting resource area at the-state-of-the-art Learning Resources Centre equipped with audio-visual facilities and computing facilities linked to a digital speech bank; three dedicated interpreting suites; professional translation software and reference books; excellent facilities for language learning in general and translators and interpreters in particular, and an excellent library collection of literatures on translation and interpreting studies, including e-journals.

Work Placement Opportunities

Depending on the availability of the market and host institutions, we organise study visits and/or internship work placements for our T&I students. In addition to the study visits to the United Nations Office in Vienna and the Directorate General for Interpreting of the European Commission in Brussels, we help our students to participate in real conference as interpreters, or take up translation assignments, from the market when opportunities arise.
