There are many reasons to study Modern Languages at Newcastle University. We are a medium-sized School of Modern Languages consisting of East Asian, French, German, and Spanish & Latin American Studies at undergraduate level, as well as Translating & Interpreting at postgraduate level.
You can study and sample Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, as well as Catalan, Dutch and Quechua. Many of our more than 40 members of staff are from an international background. We are passionate about languages and the cultures associated with these languages. You will not only learn the languages but also gain much needed intercultural competence - our graduates enjoy excellent employability prospects.
Modern Languages has a long tradition at Newcastle: in 2011, we celebrated our centenary. In the most recent NSS exercise, we scored a 93 per cent satisfaction rate.
