TCPA event at Newcastle University
Date/Time: Tuesday 21 November, 12:00 - 16:00
Venue: Newcastle University (tbc)
High level event addressing the social and economic challenges in towns largely outside the major cities and conurbations which can be overlooked by national policy-makers – and yet which, on some estimates, house two-thirds of the population.
The seminar will examine whether these areas – largely in the North and the Midlands, and once dependent on traditional heavy industries, mining, and (in the case of seaside towns) tourism – need a new national focus in a country without either a regional or a coherent urban policy.
With the northern regions facing the loss of billions of pounds in EU structural funding after Brexit, the seminar is particularly pertinent. Attendance at the event is free of charge, but registration is required through the TCPA website, (where further details can be found). It is timed specifically to accommodate attendees from outside North East England, and will appeal to senior staff in local and national government, housing professionals, community groups, the voluntary and third sector, academics and students, as well as TCPA members.
