Holistic and Complementary therapeutic treatments promote general mental and physical well being, in addition to benefits derived from more specific treatments such as reducing aches and pain, improving function of digestive system, renal system, nervous system. Treatments offered will normally involve being fully clothed with no oils required and either be conducted in a seated position or on the massage couch. The treatment may incorporate more than one of the techniques listed below if deemed appropriate.

Below are the techniques available however there are other more specific treatments may be offered on request.

Key Therapeutic Treatment Services on Offer:

Indian Head Massage
Treatment mainly focuses on head, shoulders, arms & back, working on acupressure points and some lymphatic drainage.

Benefit: As with many holistic therapy treatments the obvious benefits include removing toxins, improved blood circulation, improved facial skin condition, lymphatic drainage, headache, shoulder, neck, and stress relief, and a general feeling of well being.

Reflexology
Treatment focuses on reflex area of the feet.

Benefit: Dealing with systemic imbalances--Respiratory, Circulatory/ Vascular, Digestive, Endocrine, Reproductive, and Renal Systems, including Muscular-Skeletal aches and pain. Can also be helpful in lymphatic drainage.

Thai Foot Massage
A small subset of Thai massage with treatment focusing on the lower legs and feet. Work is based on the Zen (energy) lines and acupressure points. Similar benefits to the Reflexology treatment although much more relaxing

Lymphatic Drainage Massage
A specific approach used to help remove toxins in the body, oedema and other conditions. Benefits include improving the body’s immune system and skin conditions. Treatment is on the full body and it is recommended an hour is booked out for this treatment to ensure the best outcomes.

Can be taken over the telephone (0191) 222 7225 or in person at the
University Sports Centre. All bookings must be paid for at the
time of booking. Cash, cheque and credit cards accepted. 24 hours notice required for transfer.  No refunds can be given once booking has been made.

Please Note:

  • For your personal comfort please bring your own large towel
  • Individuals must arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment.
  • Avoid having a heavy meal or alcohol 4-5 hours prior to treatment 
  • Wear light loose fitting clothes
