photograph Medal success at U23 Rowing World Championships

Newcastle University Boat Club (NUBC) had seven representatives at the 2013 U23 World Rowing Championships held in Linz, Austria from 24 – 28 July 2013.  Sam Arnot, Tim Clarke, Tom Ford and George Rossiter were selected for the men’s eight (M8+); Gemma Hall for the lightweight women’s quadruple sculls (LW4x) and Nicole Lamb in the women’s eight (W8+); Head Boat Club coach, Angelo Savarino, was selected to  coach of the Men’s Coxed four.

All NUBC athletes performed well in the hot conditions which forced changes to the racing schedule to avoid the extreme midday heat.  The four athletes in the men’s eight were 5th in their ‘A’ final behind strong crews from New Zealand and the USA.  Nicole Lamb won a silver medal when the GB W8+ finished behind present World Champions, USA, but ahead of a fast finishing German Crew.  Gemma Hall also medaled, the lightweight women’s quad was in contention with leaders Germany and Australia for the first 500m before shipping back but had enough to hold Denmark to secure third place and a bronze medal.
