The Athletic Union: Team Newcastle
Newcastle University has a great reputation for Sport where student life and sport go hand in hand. Newcastle is consistently ranked within the top 12 out of 150 Higher Education institutions in the British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) rankings.
With over 58 different sporting clubs to choose from the Athletic Union (AU) is one of the most diverse in higher education. From international athlete to recreational participant, over 3,200 students compete in sports ranging from aikido to windsurfing, canoe to trampoline, rugby to rowing. Regardless of standard or discipline all club members proudly represent the University under the banner ‘Team Newcastle’.
This is best demonstrated in the Stan Calvert Cup. One action packed day that sees over 1,100 student athletes from over 70 teams in 25 different sports represent ‘Team Newcastle’ in this annual varsity match against Northumbria University.
