MAD about SPORT Project 2012

The latest strand to the sports volunteer programme is the development of an international volunteering project ran in partnership with Madventurer.

This year the programme will be looking for 8 enthusiastic students who want to embark on a life changing project working in the developing world.

The project involves training and placing 8 students into a netball or football specific placement in Ada Foah, Ghana. Volunteers will be required to coach football or netball as well as getting involved in swimming lessons, teaching English and clean up operations of the local community.

While in Ghana students will live and work together under the supervision of a Madventurer crew member. Students will get involved in all aspects of community life as well as enjoying free time enjoying the local sites and adventures all organised for you by Madventurer.

Students must be able to;

  • Commit to the fundraising target of £1000 each under the guidance of the volunteer programme and Madventurer.
  • Commit to fulfilling the training needs of the project which includes gaining the necessary NGB qualifications in either football or netball, first aid qualification and cultural awareness workshop (funded by the volunteer programme).
  • Spend 4 weeks in Ghana in the summer of 2013 with 7 other like minded students under the supervision of a Madventurer crew member.
  • Coach netball or football whilst in Ghana.
  • Either self fund/fundraise the cost of return flight to Ghana.

To apply for a place on this project please complete the application and email to sarah.todd@ncl.ac.uk or drop it into the sports centre for the attention of Sarah Todd.
