CASAP offers experienced academics the opportunity for accreditation of personal and professional development in their academic practice. The CASAP is a natural progression from the Newcastle Teaching Award. As such it is available to those that have completed the NTA.
The programme consists of two modules, with experienced staff needing only the second, Developing Academic Practice. This is a highly self-directed programme that encourages self-management of personal and professional development in academic practice. This is achieved by the participant focusing on a specific development activity of his or her own choosing.
A flexible, individualised development programme is designed with each candidate for their chosen activity, with the candidate using a structured portfolio to capture their learning.
The CASAP therefore offers academic staff an opportunity in continuing professional development that is uniquely focused on the individual and with the flexibility to focus on any area of academic practice. Upon completion, candidates are awarded the Certificate in Advanced Studies in Academic Practice, receive 60 credits at Master’s level, and become eligible for Fellow status of the Higher Education Academy.
