Prayer Rooms

Prayer Rooms

There are several prayer rooms on campus. All are open to all Newcastle University students & staff - please ask for details.

In the chaplaincy, in 19/20 Windsor Terrace (behind the Robinson Library), there is a multi-faith non-bookable Prayer room. It is on the ground floor, wheelchair accessible. Also in the chaplaincy (but on the first floor - no disabled access) there is the Mandela Room, for those of all faiths or none: particularly suitable for groups of up to 30 people. This is bookable through the university chaplain. Access to the chaplaincy is by smartcard, or prior arrangement.

The Muslim Prayer Room is in King George VI building. Access controlled.

There is another Muslim Prayer Room available - on Fridays only - near the Medical School, accessible from the back of Claremont Road.

Many Christians use St Thomas' church - the big one opposite King's Gate (and opposite Blackwells). Although this doesn't belong to the university, it's closer to some university buildings than the chaplaincy. It is open every day 10.00-4.00, wheelchair-accessible, warm, refreshments available. The university chaplain is also vicar here.

The Catholic Chaplaincy at 14/15 Windsor Terrace has a chapel. Access is by door code - or ring the door bell. This does not belong to the university - it belongs to the Catholic church.

In addition there is a small prayer room for the use of patients, relatives and others in the Royal Victoria Infirmary beside the front entrance of the Leazes Wing.
