Prayer Rooms

Prayer Rooms

The University is committed to preserving spaces for faith, worship and spirituality for students and staff. Complying with this policy will enable us to meet this commitment.

There are two formal faith and prayer spaces available on Newcastle University campus: the Chaplaincy Office, available for those of all faiths or none, located in Agriculture Building; and the Muslim Prayer Room located in the King George VI Building. Other spaces may on occasion be used on a temporary basis, this policy applies to these also.

The opening hours for the King George VI Prayer Room are:
Monday to Friday 7am - 11pm
Saturday 8am - 1 pm

Please see the Faith Space policy here

Many Christians use St Thomas' Church - the big one opposite King's Gate (and opposite Blackwells). Although this doesn't belong to the university, it's closer to some university buildings than the chaplaincy. It is open every day 10.30-4.00, wheelchair-accessible, warm, refreshments available. The university chaplain is also vicar here.

The Catholic Chaplaincy at 14/15 Windsor Terrace has a chapel. Access is by door code - or ring the door bell. This does not belong to the university - it belongs to the Catholic Church.

In addition there is a small prayer room for the use of patients, relatives and others in the Royal Victoria Infirmary beside the front entrance of the Leazes Wing.
