What Happens If I Don't Take the UELA?

Until you take the UELA (or you have been given an official exemption from it), you will receive reminder e-mails from Student Progress. This is because your University records will show that you have not yet taken it.

If you have not taken the UELA by the the end of October (Semester 1 registrations) or the end of February (Semester 2 registrations), your smart card and university email account may be suspended. If this happens, your smart card and account will be reactivated after you have taken the UELA.

Newcastle University takes the language support of non-native speaker students very seriously and this system is designed to make sure that people who need help will get it from the start of their studies.
