It is a university requir ment! According to the University English Language Policy, all students whose first language is not English must take the UELA unless they meet one of the exemption criteria.
By taking the UELA at the start of the semester, we can advise you at the beginning of the academic year if you need to take English classes. In many Universities, students only discover that they need language help in December or January during the assessment period. By then, it is too late. The UELA allows us to support you fully in your academic studies.
With all students taking the same assessment (although there are different versions), at approximately the same time, this gives us a clear comparison of student levels. This also helps us to give you accurate advice about whether we think you will benefit from In-Sessional English language classes or not.
There is no need to worry about the assessment. It is designed to support your studies and does not make any difference to your entry onto your academic programme.
