Alumni Fund Student Callers

Luke Hill, 2nd year Biomedical Sciences

Why I got involved?

I joined the team as I wanted to give something back to the University and raise money for very worthy causes.

Main roles and responsibilities

My responsibility was to connect with alumni to inform them about networking events and the University's fundraising work to see if they would like to contribute.

Most enjoyable aspect

I really enjoyed being part of the team and I raised a lot of money, which was great.  The most enjoyable part for me was connecting with the alumni and chatting about their experiences at university.

How I’ve benefitted

Gaining work experience in a professional environment.  It also helped me to increase my confidence further develop my communication and interpersonal skills as I regularly interacted with many new people.  I got a real sense of satisfaction knowing that I helped raise a lot of money for great causes.

The challenges

Occasionally some of the phone calls could be challenging as not all alumni were willing to speak to you.  You had to think quickly and try and find a way to connect with them.

Advice for other applicants

I would definitely recommend this opportunity.  Don't worry if you don't have any experience in anything like this, the training provided is great and you're given feedback on how you're doing and how you can improve.
