I’m interested in enterprise support as a career and also wanted some part-time work, doing the internship was perfect for me.
My role covers supporting Entrepreneurial Development Unit programme events, promoting enterprise and entrepreneurship on campus, and helping students and graduates interested in starting up their own businesses in The Elevator.
I really enjoy working with the Careers Service team. Everyone is so nice and supportive; it’s a great atmosphere to work in. My favourite experience has been the Newcastle University Enterprise Programme - six weeks of events with successful entrepreneurs giving advice on every aspect of business start-up. It was fun and informative for the entire six weeks.
Our ideas and input are really valued by the Careers Service. It’s always rewarding to see your own ideas and suggestions taken on board and put into practice, and to be trusted with responsibility to manage your own projects.
Luckily the internship works really well with my degree already but I have also been able to take a Career Development Module based on my internship, which counts towards my final degree grade. Not only does this help with my time management but it adds a practical element to my course that I think is really important for showing employers real skills.
The internship has helped with my event organisation, team-working and communication skills, as well as allowing me to put theoretical knowledge from my degree into practice, which will be a fantastic addition to my CV and a brilliant example to give in interviews.
