Kindly supported by alumni donations through the Annual Fund, the Alumni Association Student Initiative Fund supports student development by offering small grants of up to £500 to help turn your enterprising ideas into reality.

See our case studies for previous projects we have supported.

All Newcastle University students (and Newcastle University graduates within six months of graduating) can apply for funding to develop and deliver innovative, student-led, extra-curricular projects that have a community, social or cultural benefit.

In addition to providing financial assistance, the Fund will support projects to which it can add value by offering expertise and advice. The Careers Service and Students' Union will work with you to develop your proposal, skills and experience.

Ideas for projects/ activities might involve running an event or providing a service or product that directly benefits others such as local communities, voluntary organisations or Newcastle University students.

  • You can apply for up to 50% of your total project costs, up to a maximum of £500.
  • Applications must be received at least one month before completion of your project.
  • To be successful your application should be as detailed as possible with particular attention to the budget and risk assessment.
  • All successful applicants must submit a short project report detailing what happened as a result of turning your idea into reality.
  • If you receive funding and your project doesn't go ahead you will need to return the grant.
