After you have arrived in the UK

Once you have arrived in the UK there may be a few things you will be required to do to comply with the conditions of your visa.

Collecting your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card

If you have applied to come to the UK for a period of 6 months or more, you will normally be given a visa in your passport to allow you to enter the UK. You will then be required to collect a BRP (biometric residence permit) when you arrive.

Police registration

If you are required to register with the police you must do so within 7 days of collecting your BRP. The Visa Team runs sessions to assist with this, but you can also do it yourself using the guidance on our police registration webpage.

Errors on your visa

It is important that your visa contains the correct details and endorsements, and that any errors are amended promptly. You may not be able to register on your course if the details are incorrect. When you receive your visa you should check the following carefully:

  • Personal details: name, date of birth, etc.
  • Expiry date: check the table here to find out how long your Tier 4 visa should be valid for
  • Newcastle University's sponsor licence number: CKTK52NU0
  • Police registration: Newcastle campus students should check with Northumbria Police to find out if you are required to register. Newcastle University London students should check with the Metropolitan Police.
  • Working conditions: if you have a Tier 4 visa, you are allowed to work for 20 hours per week during term-time if you are studying at degree-level or above, or 10 hours per week in term-time if you are studying below degree level (e.g. Diploma, Foundation).

If any of the details on your visa are incorrect, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can assist you with getting your visa corrected.

Accessing the Visa Team
