Police Registration

When you receive your visa you should check to see if you are required to register with the police.

If you are required to register with the police you must do so at the earliest opportunity. There are very severe penalties for students who fail to register or fail to keep their police certificate up-to-date by reporting changes of circumstances, such as:

  • Change of UK address
  • Change of Tier 4 sponsor
  • Marriage
  • Birth of a Dependant child
  • Passport/visa extension

To register with the police you need to follow the instructions in the link below:

www.northumbria.police.uk/ovro

If you have any problems with the Northumbria Police web pages or registering with the police, please e-mail:

ovro-new@northumbria.pnn.police.uk

You must attend your appointment on time and you must take with you:

  • Your passport
  • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) if applicable
  • Your certificate of attendance
  • £34 in cash
  • Passport photographs
  • Receipt for tuition fees / Sponsor letter if applicable
  • Tenancy agreement / bank statement / utility bill to confirm address

If you are going to leave the UK during your course of study for a period of 1 month or more you should hand back your police registration certificate directly to the OVRO Office based at Market Street Police Station; you can collect it from the police when you return to the UK.

Please also be aware that after you have completed your course and are returning home you should hand back your police registration certificate directly to the OVRO Office based at Market Street Police Station before returning to your home country.
