Information for staff

Group teaching sessionThe Writing Development Centre works closely with schools and other student services to deliver targeted writing skills tuition and support.

In addition to our one-to-one support service, we offer a wide range of group teaching sessions addressing the needs of specific groups of students. We also have a growing collection of learning resources, both on paper and online. We are currently working on a corpus of student writing, the Academic Writing at Newcastle (AWAN) corpus, which will give us a better insight into the types of writing students do across the disciplines and the level of achievement at each stage of a degree.  The corpus will also provide useful source texts for discipline-specific materials development. Please encourage your students to contribute their work to the corpus if the assignment has attained a mark of above 60.

These pages contain information on how to refer students to the Writing Development Centre and arrange discipline-specific academic writing sessions for your students.
