Mature Student Orientation Programme

At Newcastle University, we recognise that starting University after a break in your studies can sometimes be more daunting than entering Higher Education directly from 6th Form. Often students returning to education can find it rather beneficial to meet up with other students who have similar circumstances to themselves.

At the Mature Student Orientation Programme we provide information, advice and guidance to address a range of issues that you may face. It provides a great opportunity to find out more about what it will be like when you start University. You will meet current University students who will share their experiences, as well as other mature students who will also be starting in September.

The last event was held in September 2016 and was very successful. Comments from students attending this event in previous years included:

  • "I found it very useful. Thank you."
  • "Very useful, got answers to all my questions and feel much more confident."
  • "Very informative."
  • "It was well organised and thought out, Bravo!"
  • "It is a fantastic experience to have such information before starting the class. I now know where to go if I need any help, thanks to this session/programme"
  • "A great job and thank you for organising this. I met course mates, learnt how to go about starting school again and appreciate the succinct summary of services available to me. Thumbs Up!"
  • "Excellent very worthwhile and settling"
  • "I really enjoyed, other students were very friendly"

The next event will take place on Friday 15th September 2017 from 9:15am. The programme provides a great opportunity to find out more about what it will be like when you start University, and to meet other mature students studying at Newcastle University. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.

This event is predominately aimed at new undergraduate students; however, any postgraduate students who feel that they would benefit from this event are more than welcome to attend.

If you are interested in attending this event, please e-mail Stephanie Matthews, Event Co-ordinator by Friday 8th September to confirm your attendance. This event is limited to 100 places and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please advise us of any access requirements e.g. if you are a wheelchair user, require information in an alternative format, require audio amplification/hearing loop or visual equipment or have any dietary requirements.

Once your place is confirmed, I will send you a confirmation e-mail, the schedule for the event and a copy of our campus map.

You may find it advantageous to link up with other students through the Mature Students Facebook page.
