Eligibility

The Financial Assistance Fund (FAF) is available only to registered international and non-UK EU students only. UK students who are experiencing financial difficulties should check to see if they are eligible to apply for help from the discretionary Access to Learning Fund.

Only registered students of the University can apply. Applications cannot be made prior to commencing your studies.

Any overseas student studying a degree programme at the University is eligible to apply, but over-running students paying writing up or continuation fees are not normally eligible for awards. Students who are registered on pre-sessional English language courses or short courses are also not normally eligible to apply.

To be eligible to apply students must be:

  • a full-time or part-time registered student from outside the UK and must not meet the residency requirements for a home student. To be eligible for support undergraduate students on part-time courses must be registered for a minimum of 60 credit points in an academic year (full-time is 120), or studying at least 50% of a full-time course. Postgraduate students must be registered for 90 credit points (full-time is 180) and also studying 50% of full time to be eligible
  • able to demonstrate that you commenced your course with adequate funding
  • able to show that you need financial assistance and have explored other ways of supporting yourself
