Outcomes and Payment

You will be informed of the outcome of your application by e-mail as soon as the assessment of your application has been finalised. This will usually be within 10 working days of submitting your application as long as the form has been completed fully and all supporting evidence has been submitted. Staff are unable to discuss the outcome of an application over the telephone or in person.

If your application is successful any payment you are due to receive will be made directly into your bank account via BACS (credit transfer) Cheque or cash payments cannot usually be made.

If deemed appropriate, the Assessment Team may refer students to the Student Finance Advisers for help with budgeting and managing their money. Any student referred to the Advisers must attend a budgeting session before subsequent instalments of the FAF will be released. Payments may be withheld if students do not attend agreed sessions.

Review and Appeal

If you think that a decision we have made about your Financial Assistance Fund application is incorrect you may have the right to appeal.

Not liking the outcome is not grounds for an appeal.

If you are unhappy with the way in which your application has been dealt with or the standard of service you have received you should follow our complaints procedure.

Review

If you are thinking of making an appeal you must request a review meeting in the first instance.

A review meeting is less formal than an appeal and will give you the opportunity to discuss how the outcome of your application was made. If you wish to arrange a review meeting you should contact us.

If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your review meeting you can still submit an appeal.

Appeal

You must request a review meeting before submitting an appeal.

If you would like to submit an appeal you must contact us to request an appeals form. You should submit an appeal within one month of receiving your letter of outcome.

When completing your appeals from you should outline why you believe our decision is incorrect and provide documentary evidence to support your case.

Appeals will be considered by the Head of the Student Wellbeing Service or the Manager of the Student Financial Support Team. They will not have been involved in the assessment of your application. A letter detailing the outcome of your appeal will be emailed to you.

There is no further stage of appeal beyond this final decision. If your circumstances have changed since your original application you may wish to submit a reassessment form.
