UK undergraduate students predicted to achieve, or who have already obtained, AAB at A-Level or equivalent, who are paying £9,000 tuition fees and whose household income is at or below £15,000 will be considered for one of the 20 Promise Scholarships available if they meet one of the following criteria:
*When assessing eligibility we will use the home post code as shown on each student’s UCAS application. Other postcodes will not be considered.
Promise Scholarships are intended to support students from low income families who have faced adversity in their lives and to give them the opportunity to enter higher education for the first time. Therefore students who have previously studied degrees or higher level qualifications, regardless of whether they completed the course or not, cannot be considered for these scholarships.
Due to Government guidelines, NHS funded students receiving tuition fee grants cannot be considered for bursaries or scholarships through our Access Agreement in the academic year they receive NHS funding.
Students awarded Promise Scholarships cannot be considered for Access Scholarships or Opportunity Scholarships.

Students can submit an online application here.
Students will be notified the outcome of their applications by letter in May/June 2014: letters will be sent to student’s UCAS home addresses. Successful students will be invited to make an online stage 2 application. Unsuccessful students will automatically be considered for Opportunity Scholarships and Access Scholarships.
In May/June 2014 successful stage 1 applicants will be invited to complete the second stage of the application process via an online application form. This will include a personal statement, supported by a teacher/tutor reference.
Students will receive outcome letters of their stage 2 applications in September/October 2014. The 20 successful students will be asked to provide bank details to permit electronic cash payment to be made.
Please note: if students want to be considered for Promise Scholarships they must complete and return an application for income assessed student finance to the relevant assessment authority as shown below:
Students can only be awarded Promise Scholarships if they have applied for income assessed funding. There are no exceptions. Assessment authorities will carry out income assessments and pass on information to the Student Loans Company (SLC) who in turn will pass on the information to the University. To be considered for Promise Scholarships students and their parent(s)/sponsor(s) must ‘consent to share’ household income information with the University on their student finance application form. The University cannot finalise eligibility for Promise Scholarships until ‘consent to share’ has been given.
