Only home (UK) undergraduates students commencing studies before 2012 and paying £3,465 fees are eligible to be considered for a University Bursary. Your year of entry will determine the bursary scheme which applies to you. More detailed information is available about the rates of bursary available.
If another agency, such as the NHS, is responsible for paying all or part of your fees you will not be eligible to receive a University Bursary. Erasmus students who are not liable to pay any tuition fees are not eligible for a University Bursary. Students undertaking a placement year will receive a University Bursary on a pro rata basis (i.e. 25% tuition fees of £865 will mean a 25% bursary is payable).
A separate application does not need to be made in order to apply for a University Bursary. If you want to be considered for a University Bursary you should complete and return an application for income assessed student finance to the relevant assessment authority shown below:
You can only be awarded a University Bursary if you have applied for income assessed funding. There are no exceptions. Your assessment authority will carry out the income assessment and pass on information to the Student Loans Company to run against University Bursary rules. If you want to be automatically considered for a University Bursary you (and your parents/sponsors) must consent to share your household income information with the University on your student finance application form. If this is not done your data cannot be supplied to the University and you cannot be assessed for a University Bursary.
Students awarded a University Bursary will be sent an award letter by the University's Student Financial Support Team staff using SLC correspondence addresses (usually your home address); the letters will also appear in online student finance accounts in the ‘correspondence’ section. These accounts are held by your assessing authority (SFE, SFW, SAAS, SFNI).
Please contact us if you meet all the eligibility criteria and have not received an award letter by November 2012.

More students can benefit from an undergraduate bursary, thanks to the generosity of our alumni and friends who make a donation to Newcastle University’s charitable giving programme; the Annual Fund.
The Annual Fund has enjoyed the support of alumni, current staff, retired staff and students for many years and it supports a wide range of areas across campus, directly helping current students. Donations are generated through the University’s phonathon fundraising campaigns. A team of 28 student callers speak with over 15,000 alumni and supporters of Newcastle University to encourage them to join our regular giving programme.
