The National College for Teaching and Learning offer a tax free bursary to assist eligible UK and EU students undertaking a PCGE. The amount of bursary available will depend on teaching subject and UK degree (or equivalent) class. These bursaries are usually paid directly to the student on a monthly basis during the course.

Free school meals (FSM) premium
25% premium paid on the above bursaries/scholarships to School Direct trainees whose training is based in a school where more than 35% of pupils are eligible for free school meals

Trainees who are not awarded a scholarship will continue to be eligible for the standard bursaries in 2013/14.
**The Secretary of State announced on 14 June that trainees with a B or better at maths A-level on the new maths primary specialist courses would receive an extra £2,000 bursary, up to a maximum of £11,000.

Tuition fees for UK students undertaking a PGCE in 2013/14 will be £9,000. Home UK students will be able to apply for a tuition fee loan to cover the cost of their fees.
UK home students undertaking a PGCE will be eligible to apply for a maintenance loan to help them cover their living costs. All eligible students from England can receive 65% of the maximum maintenance loan available - this is the non-income assessed element. The remaining 35% is income - assessed and the amount a student will receive will depend upon their household income.
Students who choose to make an income-assessed application for a student maintenance loan may also be eligible to receive a maintenance grant. This grant in non-repayable and the level of grant payable will depend upon household income. The maximum grant available for 2012/13 for students from England is £3,354. Those students who have a household income of £25,000 or less will receive the maximum grant. Partial grants are payable to students who have household income of between £25,000 and £42,611.
Grants are also available for students with childcare and caring responsibilities or if a student incurs extra costs as a direct result of a disability or specific learning difficulty.
Students from England should apply for a tuition fee loan, maintenance loan, maintenance grant and other help from Student Finance England.
Students from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales who want to apply for a maintenance loan, tuition fee loan and grants should apply to their own assessment authority.
