The University provides travel insurance free of charge to undergraduate students travelling overseas on authorised, course-related University business, subject to limitations and exclusions listed below.

Cover will be in place seven days a week during the business/course/placement part of the trip but will not cover holidays.
Cover is subject to a reasonable precautions condition which requires all care and attention to be taken to safeguard property from loss or damage. Failure to comply would entitle insurers to refuse payment for the loss or damage.
Information as to the suitability of a proposed journey can be obtained on the Foreign and Commonwealth website which should be checked regularly before you travel.

Elective Medical/Dental Students are covered for all emergency injuries to the student whilst working in a medical situation such as needle stick injury but not medical malpractice or clinical risks covered by MPS/MDU. You will need to liaise with your School in this respect.
All sporting activities are covered which take place during the business/course/placement part of the trip. As long as these are in line with your experience.
Should there be any intention of hiring a vehicle abroad it is necessary to bear in mind that the extent of cover provided is usually limited. It is necessary to check that the limit of liability, deductibles applying are in accordance with UK standards if possible.

As soon as possible after you are aware that an event has happened which may give rise to a claim, you must contact the University Insurance Office: insurance@ncl.ac.uk
You must take all reasonable steps to avoid or minimise any loss or damage and must also make every effort to recover any property which has been lost.
Failure to comply with the claims procedures noted will result in delayed claims settlements and could ultimately invalidate a claim.
