University Travel Plan

The Travel Plan is a collection of measures aimed at promoting sustainable travel, with an emphasis on the reduction of reliance on single occupancy car travel.

Travel Plans are recommended by the Government to help employers widen travel choice – promoting greener, cleaner travel choices and reducing the reliance on cars.

Aims

  • Reduce congestion and the demand for car parking spaces
  • Reduce environmental pollution and visual intrusion caused by parked vehicles
  • Increase travel choices for all staff, students and visitors of the University
  • Bring health benefits through:
    • Reduced air pollution
    • Fewer road traffic accidents
    • Increased physical fitness through walking or cycling
    • Reduced stress originating from driving and parking
    • Lower noise levels
  • Minimise business mileage thus reducing corporate transport costs
  • Improve the University’s environmental performance
  • Secure planning permission for campus development
