Current research interests
I wear 2 hats - remote sensing of coral reefs and ecology of
coral reefs. My remote sensing interests range from the practical
use of remote sensing for coastal management to modelling the
radiative transfer processes taking place between the sun, reef,
and remote sensing instrument. Current projects include assessing
the extent of coral mortality after a severe bleaching event in
French Polynesia. This research uses in situ spectra and airborne
data collected using CASI (Compact Spectrographic Imager). Collaborators
include Chris Clark (University of Sheffield), Jean Jaubert (University
of Nice), John Chisholm (University of Nice), Herb Ripley (HDI)
and Serge Andrefouet (University of South Florida).
Reef ecological interests include modelling processes of herbivory
on reefs, the effects of disturbance on juvenile coral communities,
causes and consequences of coral bleaching, and the processes
structuring parrotfish communities. Current research is being
carried out at Glovers Reef Marine Station, Belize, Central America.
